introduction
In September 2008, foundation Connect International and Delft University of Technology started with the development of a waterfilter for poor families in Africa. This filter is based on the existing a Siphonfilter and will be adjusted to fit in the Tanzanian and later on African markets. The final product will be presented in January 2009.
Connect International
Connect international is a Dutch foundation with an office in Leiden. Connect International supports small-scale and sustainable self-help projects in developing countries. They do this by supporting the local organizations, which facilitate such projects in villages, financially and non financially. In this way Connect International has, in recent years, supported hundreds of villages. Particularly in the field of drinking water, education and health.
Recently Connect International has won the “transparency price 2007” in the category small institutions. The “transparency price” is organized by PricewaterhouseCoopers in association with foundation Civil Society and is intended for the Dutch charitable institution that presents the most transparent and distinguished annual report.
Delft University of Technology
Delft University of Technology has set itself to solve the social problems of the future and is paying more and more attention to sustainability and sustainable development in its education and research programs. Within the field of sustainability, water is now becoming one of the main topics of the university.
The faculty of Industrial Design Engineering is currently working on the front line of developing products for the so-called Base of the Pyramid.
